Conference on freedom of movement in the area of labour and social affairs. The Norwegian Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2012 is continuing efforts to discuss and find concrete solutions for cross-border obstacles in the area of labour and social affairs.
The Nordic Committees of Senior Officials for Labour and Employment, and Health and Social Affairs have formed an expert group to identify obstacles in these areas. The results of the expert group's final report will be presented at the conference. Possible solutions to the problems of cross-border obstacles and further work on freedom of movement in the area of labour and social affairs will be raised for discussion at the conference.

Youth empowerment and young people’s participation in society - Young people's opportunities to participate in shaping society will be the focus of a Nordic Council seminar for young parliamentarians and politicians in Vilnius, Lithuania. Freedom of movement across country borders, visa questions and young people's influence through the internet and social media are some of the topics that will be covered. The aim is to formulate a resolution based on the questions: How can we guarantee young people's influence in society, what are the obstacles, and can we learn from each others experiences?

The Nordic Council of Ministers' information service, Hello Norden, invites to a debate on freedom of movement in the Nordic countries. Hello Norden present the discussion paper "The story of Jyrki and Jóhanna", a story about one family's encounter with a number of the problems faced by Nordic citizens when they move across borders in the Nordic region. Hello Norden has invited the Nordic Council's party groups to a debate based on the discussion paper. Which obstacles to freedom of movement are important to solve and how do we do it?

The conference highlights the untapped potential of Nordic co-operation, focusing on regulations which inhibit growth between the countries. Motivation to take action will be created by identifying the businesses or industries in which the potential is greatest and which face the most obstacles.

Debate with Gunnar Wettererg, author of the Nordic Council of Ministers' and Nordic Council's Yearbook 2010 "United Nordic Federation" 5 November in Copenhagen. Wetterberg will present his ideas and discuss them with Professor Thorsten Borring Olesen, Aarhus University and Henrik Dam Kristensen (S) Chairman of the Danish Delegation to the Nordic Council. TV presenter Clement Behrendt Kjersgaard will moderate the debate.

The Nordic Region in Focus and the Øresund Committee extend an invitation to a debate meeting on the future of the Øresund Region to mark the 10th anniversary of the Øresund Bridge and Region. The meeting will take place in the Fællessal in the Danish Parliament building, Christiansborg.
Swedish historian and social commentator, Gunnar Wetterberg, who has caused much debate with his articles on the Nordic federal state in the Swedish newspaper 'Dagens Nyheter' will take part. He will present his 'realistic utopia' and debate with the Danish and Swedish Ministers for Nordic Co-operation, Karen Ellemann (TBC) and Cristina Husmark Pehrsson, as well as the Director of the Øresund Committee, Mikael Stamming.
The topic 'Communication bridge or gap?" will be discussed by the following participants: Finn Hansen, Head of Breve Danmark and member of Posten Norden's Group Executive Management, Jacob Hedebrink, Adminstration Manager for Copydan Kabel -TV, Pia Kinhult, Skåne Regional Council and Swedish member of the Freedom of Movement Forum and Henrik Dam Kristensen, MP and member of the Nordic Council's Citizens' and Consumer Rights Committee.

In the run-up to the debate in Parliament on 20 April, the Danish Delegation to the Nordic Council, the Øresund Committee and the Nordic Region in Focus invite to a hearing on freedom of movement at Christiansborg. Finn Lauritzen, Director of the Øresund Committee will present new figures from the upcoming Increment Analysis for the Øresund Region.
