Developments in greenhouse gas emissions by sector

This indicator shows the contribution to total greenhouse gas emissions by sector. The sectors are classified following emission source sectors as established by the IPCC and these cannot be directly compared to economic sectors classified elsewhere. Note that the energy sector includes the total emission of all greenhouse gases from stationary and mobile energy activities (fuel combustion as well as fugitive fuel emissions from e.g. the transport sector). The dataset covers emissions and removals of direct GHGs i.e. carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), including indirect CO2 emissions. Each gas is weighted according to the global warming factors (GWP) which results in the comparable measure CO2 equivalents.
