About the Nordic Committee for Co-operation
Ultimate responsibility for Nordic inter-governmental co-operation lies with the prime ministers. However, in practice, it is delegated to the Ministers for Nordic Co-operation, who in turn delegate ongoing co-ordination to the Nordic Committee for Co-operation (NSK).
The NSK, which is responsible for the ongoing co-ordination of official Nordic political co-operation, consists of senior civil servants from the five Nordic nations, as well as from the autonomous territories – i.e. the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland.
The Committee also fulfils a management role for the Nordic Council of Ministers' Secretariat in Copenhagen, and prepares for and follows up on the issues for the co-operation ministers.
As a rule, NSK meets 8–10 times a year and is chaired by a civil servant from the country currently holding the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The Presidency lasts for one full calendar year and rotates between the five nations.
There are co-operation offices in each of the nations and autonomous territories co-ordinate between the Council of Ministers (the co-operation ministers) and the national administrations.
