The aim of the Nordic Culture Fund is to support a broad spectrum of cultural cooperations between the Nordic countries.
The prize has been awarded since 1962 for a work of imaginative literature written in one of the Nordic languages. This can be a novel, a play, a collection of poetry, short stories or essays that meets high literary and artistic standards. The intention of the prize is also to increase interest in the literature of neighbouring countries as well in Nordic cultural fellowship.
The purpose of the Nordic Council's Film Prize is to promote the production of Nordic films in order to strengthen the Nordic film market. Since 2005 it has been awarded along with the Nordic Council prizes for music, literature, and nature and environment.
The purpose of the Nature and Environment Prize is to increase awareness of nature and environmental work in the Nordic countries. Since 1995 it has been awarded along with the other Nordic Council prizes.
The intention of the Nordic Council Literature Prize is to increase interest in the literature and language of the neighbouring countries. It is awarded along with the Nordic Council prizes for music, film, and nature and the environment.
