In 11 years the Baltic Sea must be unaffected by eutrophication and hazardous substances, the marine biodiversity must be favourable and shipping environmentally-friendly, according to an agreement taken by all the Baltic Sea states and the EU Commission. On 20 May the Baltic Sea states will present their national implementation plans to meet the objectives of the Baltic Sea Action Plan. Are the measures adequate and can the plans be implemented in practice? A Nordic seminar in the Swedish Parliament, on Tuesday 25 May.

In February 2009 Thorvald Stoltenberg presented his report "Nordic co-operation on foreign and defence policy" to the Nordic foreign ministers. The report presents a number of policy areas and occasions for closer and more wide-ranging Nordic partnerships in foreign and security affairs. Since the report was presented the EU Treaty of Lisbon has entered into force, which, amongst other things, has introduced new conditions for foreign and security policies. What does the Treaty of Lisbon mean for the possibilities of closer Nordic co-operation? What is the case in the Nordic countries today with regard to enlarged forms of co-operation in foreign and security policies, and how far has work progressed with realising the Stoltenberg report?

During the theme year a seminar will raise the question of Nordic social progress, the welfare system and the common future. What has happened and what will happen with Nordic welfare? Has the welfare project been unsuccessful? How do you measure and define poverty? Is there poverty in the Nordic Region? Is there the will, resources and adequate solution models to fight Nordic poverty?

So Very Nordic (Så in i Norden) - Nordic Culture Days is a six-day event with literature, film, music, environment and food from the Nordic countries - simply Nordic culture at its best. We open on Culture Night with artists from all corners of the Nordic region. The Nordic days of culture are organised in conjunction with the Nordic Council's Session which takes place in Stockholm 27-29 October.
