The Danish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers 2015

Growth, welfare and values are the keywords of the 2015 Danish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Growth

The Danish Presidency will support the development of the kind of smart, sustainable and attractive cities that epitomise the Nordic Region. In 2015 the Presidency will launch a major Nordic project competition for new solutions for the development of attractive and sustainable urban areas. Denmark will also present a Nordic action plan to promote the effective use of resources and sustainable Nordic fashion and textile production.

Welfare

Denmark will call for the Nordic countries to work more closely together on particular aspects of welfare in order to use the Region’s resources and potential for the benefit of its people, e.g. by better sharing of knowledge about work to reduce inequalities in health.

Values

Denmark will encourage better strategic use of the Nordic “brand” to promote awareness of the Region, boost growth and improve welfare. “New Nordic Food” has helped put the Region on the world map. Denmark will continue to build on this and focus Nordic initiatives on emerging markets.

The Arctic

The Arctic is an increasingly important priority both in the Nordic Region and at global level. Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands will support closer Nordic/Arctic collaboration to face the special challenges posed by climate change in the Arctic.
