The Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize will be awarded for the first time during the Nordic Council Session in 2013 at the same time as the other Nordic Council prizes. The award is the result of the Nordic Culture Ministers long-standing desire to strengthen and elevate literature for children and young people in the Region.

The Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize is popular outside the Nordic Region despite the fact that it has never yet been awarded (this will happen on 30 October during the Nordic Council Session in Oslo). The book fairs in Bologna, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Berlin, London, Gothenburg and Bucharest have all bid for the new baby and this promises well for the prize – and will thus increase visibility of Nordic Children and Young People's literature both in the region and abroad. The nominations for the prize in 2013 will be announced on 29 May at the Norwegian Festival of Literature in Lillehammer.
