About the Environment and Natural Resources Committee
The Environment and Natural Resources Committee deals with issues concerning the environment and nature preservation as well as exploitation of natural resources in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries. The Committee also works with energy and traffic policies in co-operation with the Business and Industry Committee. The Committee addresses Nordic and global challenges. In addition, the Committee raises issues of great importance for the Nordic Region on the EU agenda within the above-mentioned areas.
Examples of issues dealt with by the Committee are:
- Renewable energy and the Nordic electricity market
- Climate change and efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases
- Nuclear safety
- Fisheries management
- The EU Common Agricultural Policy
- Food production and food safety
- Administration of large packs of predators in the Nordic Region
- Preservation of biological diversity
- Safety at sea and environmental protection in the Arctic
