The Nordic region plays an important role in the efforts to mitigate climate change and to adapt to the inevitable consequences. The effects are strongest in the Arctic region and this will affect the rest of the Globe. The Nordic countries are pushing for solutions in the international negotiations to establish a post-Kyoto regime, they are introducing national policies and taking action in order to be in the forefront of the development towards a low-carbon society. The Nordic region is also the home-base of enterprises with world leading technologies needed to reach these results.
This setting provides formidable challenges but also great opportunities. It is essential to focus on the way forward and on providing solutions. What does this imply for the Nordic countries? What will the playing field look like? Can we use our experience and technological advances? What are the business opportunities?
The conference will address these questions and shed light on important aspects such as :
What can we expect from the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (COP15) and what is the role of the Nordic Countries and the EU?
How will the energy sector develop and what are the implications for greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in the Arctic Region? What are the technical solutions?
What is the role of financial instruments and how should they be put to use in order to achieve maximum effects?
Leading Nordic politicians, civil servants, NGO representatives and business people will convene in Stockholm for this conference, organized in connection with the annual session of the Nordic Council and on the eve of the Copenhagen Climate Summit
Speakers will include:
Andreas Carlgren, Minister for the Environment, Sweden
