A heated political debate about Denmark's deportation of Nordic citizens made a strong impression on the Session 2010 in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Stop repatriation of Nordic citizens in need of social help, was the cry from the Nordic Council's Session after the discussion on the so-called deportation case. The Council’s demand to the other Nordic governments to take this case up with Denmark critically was not unanimous. Representatives from the Danish People's Party and the Sweden Democrats were amongst those who did not support the proposal.

The summit meeting with the Nordic prime ministers was also a highlight. The prime ministers agreed that green growth is the way out of the crisis and the way to meet global challenges. But do the prime ministers actually have a common Nordic strategy for growth? The question remains, and expectations will probably grow during the next year, especially when the prime ministers meet at the Globalisation Forum 2011 in Finland.

During the Session there was a clear call to the Nordic politicians to leave fewer decisions to civil servants and to take more responsibility for policies themselves. "If we are to revitalise Nordic co-operation then we must prioritise it", said Norwegian Dagfinn Høybråten. Many of the parliamentarians from the other Nordic countries agreed with Høybråten, who was President of the Nordic Council in 2007.

The Nordic Council also requested the governments, amongst other things, to set up a common Nordic deposit system, to introduce tax on financial transactions and to create a Nordic register of doctors and other health professionals which would help to prevent "dangerous doctors" working between the Nordic countries.
