Statutes of the Nordic Council Journalistic Grants
§1
The Nordic Council's annual journalistic scholarship was established to increase journalists' interest in and opportunities to write about conditions in the other Nordic countries as well as to report on Nordic co-operation.
§2
The size of the journalistic scholarship is set every year during budget negotiations with the Nordic Council. It is distributed between the five Nordic countries so that each country receives an equal share.
§3
In each country the scholarship goes to one or several journalists from newspapers, magazines, radio or TV. Freelance journalists may also apply.
Preference for grants is given to journalists who have documented an interest for Nordic co-operation and who have not previously received a scholarship.
The scholarship is posted on the Nordic Council's website, www.norden.org, and separately in the different countries.
It should be clear from the application, submitted to the Nordic Council, what the scholarship is going to be used for. Objective, work plan and travel plans should be attached.
§4
The scholarship is granted nationally in every country by the country's representatives in the Nordic Council, in collaboration with the national secretariat and appropriate journalist organisation.
The Nordic Council's Presidium announces how the scholarships have been distributed nationally.
The scholarships are paid out by the respective national delegation.
§5
The scholarship must be used within one year of it being granted. The advertising and distribution of the scholarships takes place during the first half of the calendar year.
Before the end of the calendar year after receiving the scholarship, the holder of the scholarship must submit a report on its use to the Nordic Council Presidium.
§6
The material that the receiver of the scholarship produces as a result of the scholarship can be used by the Nordic Council without any extra cost or remuneration. The receiver of the scholarship will be informed when the scholarship has been announced.
