Energy, transport and regional policy

Project funding from the North Atlantic Co-operation (NORA)
NORA provides financial grants in support of collaborative projects involving partners from at least two of the four NORA countries (Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and Coastal Norway). NORA will contribute to strengthening collaboration within the region in order to make the North Atlantic a powerful Nordic region, characterized by strong, sustainable economic development. This happens by strengthening collaboration among the business community, the research organisations and the development agencies throughout the region.
Long-term loans from the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB)
NIB provides long-term complementary financing to projects that, in compliance with NIB's mandate, strengthen competitiveness and enhance the environment. NIB offers its customers -both private and public- tailormade loans and guarantees on competitive market terms.
The West Nordic Fund
The West Nordic Fund lends money to invest in companies in the Faroe Islands and Greenland, as well as to Icelandic companies, for co-operation projects between an Icelandic and/or a Faroese or a Greenlandic company.
The North Sea Programme
The North Sea Programme employs the latest instruments for regional development through transnational projects. The overarching objective of the programme is to expand the framework for territorial co-operation and focus on strong, quality projects to promote innovation, the environment, accessibility and sustainability, and competitive local communities. The programme has a budget of Euro 140 million from the EU. Norwegian partners provide additional funding of Euro 9.6 million.
INTERREG IV A North
The programme has three priority areas: development of the business community; research, development and education; and regional functionality and identity. The counties taking part are the three northernmost Norwegian counties of Finnmark, Troms and Nordland, the county of Norrbotten in Sweden and Lapland in Finland
Sweden-Norway: Borderless Co-operation
The main objective of the programme is to strengthen the attractiveness and competitiveness of the region through cross-border co-operation. The programme has three areas of priority: economic growth, an attractive living environment and technical support. The first two are oriented towards external project activities while the last area favours the funding of the programme's internal management and implementation.
Kolarctic ENPI CBC
The programme has 3 main priority areas: economic and social development; common challenges and border co-operation; and people-to-people co-operation and identity building. Fundamental to all areas are cross-border activities and giving priority to women and young people.
Northern Periphery
The programme's focus areas are designed to meet the special challenges facing the northern, periphery regions, such as scattered populations in rural areas. Initiatives in innovation, the environment, accessibility and contacts between town and country are given priority. NPP 2007-2013 will focus in particular on the development of new, innovative products and services through multi-national co-operation. The projects, through exchange of experiences and network building, must lead to tangible results which give added value to the participating regions.
North: Sàpmi
The objective of the programme is for the Sami region in 2013 to have reinforced the Sami culture and the business community by providing the conditions for a broader and more structured business collaboration and focusing on common solutions for the development of what is unique to the Sami culture.
Sweden-Norway: Inner Scandinavia
The main objective of the programme is to strengthen the attractiveness and competitiveness of the region through cross-border co-operation. The programme has three areas of priority: economic growth, an attractive living environment and technical support. The first two are oriented towards external project activities while the last area favours the funding of the programme's internal management and implementation.
The Baltic Sea Region Programme
The Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013 is one of the key transnational programmes in the EU's Territorial Co-operation. The programme has a budget of Euro 236.6 million and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund - ERDF), the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument - ENPI and funding from the Norwegian state. In addition there is regional financing.
Interreg
The EU programme Interreg Sweden-Norway is part of the new Territorial Co-operation Objective which aims to strengthen co-operation across borders in the EU and adjacent countries. The objective builds on the former INTERREG Community Initiative. Territorial co-operation covers three types of programmes: cross-border co-operation, transnational co-operation and inter-regional co-operation. Interreg Sweden-Norway is a cross-border co-operation programme. The programme aims to strengthen innovative projects, improvement of knowledge and competitiveness in business, technology and social progress. Economic growth will be promoted through investments in infrastructure and the elimination of cross-border barriers. An attractive living environment will be strengthened through creating a region where people will live, work and visit.
Kattegat-Skagerrak
The programme has 3 priorities areas: * To promote sustainable economic growth * To bind the region together * To promote integration in everyday life
Botnia-Atlantica
Target areas are divided into six priorities: education, research and technical development, tourism and industry, social services, nature and the cultural environment as resources, communications and cross-border community and solidarity (energy, culture, co-operation between cities and towns).
Nordic Energy Research project funding
Nordic Energy Research (NER) supports areas of energy research that are of common interest to Nordic stakeholders and have potential for transnational research cooperation.
Grant financing from the Nordic Development Fund
NDF provides grant financing for climate change investments in low-income countries. Eligible areas for NDF grant financing include climate change mitigation and adaptation activities. NDF grants are provided mainly for technical assistance, i.e. consulting services, and for investments, i.e. goods, works, services, and for other applicable expenses in connection with technical assistance.
Financial support from NEFCO
NEFCO is an international finance institution established by the Nordic countries. NEFCO finances investments and projects mainly in Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. NEFCO finances projects and investments that generate positive environmental effects of interest to the Nordic region.
Grants from the Nordic Council of Ministers under the Nordic strategy for sustainable development 2009–2012
The Nordic Council of Ministers has granted funding for projects which contribute to the implementation of the Nordic strategy for sustainable development in climate and renewable energy; sustainable production and consumption; the welfare society; and education and research, public participation and local sustainability strategies. There will be an external call for project funding in 2012.
