Norden at the Cinema

A joint Nordic language venture for schools across the Nordic Region. The aim is for pupils to improve their ability to understand other Nordic languages with the help of film-based teaching material. The material has been produced with funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Dynamic languages with roots

"Dynamic Languages with Roots" ("Nordiske sprog med rødder og fodder") is a lively and objective account of the Nordic languages in a historical perspective. The material is available in the Scandinavian languages, Icelandic and Faroese, as well as Sami, Greenlandic and Finnish. The book is an account of the languages' structure, historical development and mutual kinship. The book and website both have comprehensive teaching material made up of short, easily accessible texts on the history of language and linguistic subjects.

Danmarks Radio - Nordic languages

The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR)’s website on the Nordic languages produced with funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers. For example, listen to a Sami or Faroese poem, try out as a rapper composer or play quizzes to your heart's desire on the Nordic countries.

Literature

Nordic literature at your service

Canon of Nordic literature. The various literature genres are represented with lyrics - ballads, songs, psalms and main lyrics - in novels, short stories, travel books, myths, folk poetry, fairy tales, aphorisms and drama. All the texts are found in the original language and in a modernised spelling. The Finnish, Sami, Faroese, Icelandic, and Greenlandic are also translated to one of the Scandinavian languages. To facilitate reading, the texts are provided with Danish, Swedish and Norwegian words collected in small national pamphlets.

"We are making a contribution"

What is the role of the Nordic Region in the new Europe? This, and other issues, are discussed in the book "We are making a contribution". The book contains five sections by the Nordic writers Jan Kjærstad, Henrik Nordbrandt, Einar Már Gudmundsson, Eva Ström and Kari Hotakainen. In addition, it also contains facts on the Nordic countries and Nordic co-operation and tips on how to find out more. The book is available in Scandinavian (Danish, Swedish, Norwegian) as well as in a Finnish and an Icelandic version.

Valhalla - portal for children's and youth culture

Valhalla is the Nordic Council of Ministers' portal for children's and youth culture in all the Nordic countries. The portal links to most of what is happening in the Nordic Region within architecture and design, visual arts, dance and theatre, the multicultural arena, film and media, research and education, play and movement, literature and music for children and young people.

Nordic Climate Day

Nordic Climate Day is held once a year as a mobile phone event targeting 7th - 10th grade pupils in the Nordic countries. Pupils are given assignments via their mobile phones that they have to solve during the day and then upload onto the website, where they can see the assignments of the other Nordic school pupils.
