The Nordic countries are modern societies with roots in a unique natural and cultural heritage. This meeting, between natural scenery and vibrant cultural life, traditions and modern urban life, attracts many to travel to or within the Nordic countries. But this picture does not understandably capture the nuances. Listed below is a collection of links as a guide to what the respective countries have to offer you as a visitor.

Legal right of access to private land is unique opportunity to move freely in the countryside and a feature that is very much appreciated by tourists who like to spend time outdoors. It exists in all Nordic countries except Denmark. The rules are a little different in each country and it is the visitor's responsibility to find out the details of what one can do.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's website has a brief overview of the right of public access in the Nordic countries and a detailed collection of questions and answers about the right of public access. There is also a version of the right of public access in English and German.

The countries' official travel guides are a good introduction and give a simple and clear overview of which activities, experiences and national sites make them an interesting tourist destination. This is also a good starting point if you are interested in activities and experiences in the countryside.

Visit Sweden is the official travel guide to Sweden. The ability to navigate by region is practical, because Sweden is a relatively long country. You can also choose the type of activities, or vacation, you are interested in.

The Swedish Tourist Association's website focuses on experiences in and around Swedish culture and nature. Good source for eco-tourism and to find experiences besides the most popular resorts and places.

Visit Denmark is the official travel guide to Denmark. Has a smart grouping according to the type of holiday you want with, for example, active holidays, family holidays, city breaks, culture, enjoy life, etc.

Visit Finland is the official travel guide to Finland. Official website for tourism in Finland. Gives a good overview and has excellent support for visitors to share experiences, blog and community functions.

Visit Norway is the official travel guide to Norway. Good navigation functions allowing visitors to see on a map where the most popular areas of interest in Norway are, for example, the most important towns, fjords and UNESCO heritage sites.

The Norwegian Trekking Association focuses on trekking and outdoor life.
