The Nordic countries have a joint pavilion at the UN Climate negotiations in Marrakech, November 7-18, 2016, under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Nordic pavilion at COP22 will highlight New Nordic Climate Solutions through a series of events and activities focusing on a greener future.
Showcasing Nordic and international green growth results. Hosted by the Nordic Council of Ministers, in co-operation with OECD (tbc), CICERO, GGGF and the African Development Bank. The event takes place at the New Nordic Climate Solutions Pavilion - Section DEL2, Blue Zone, COP22.
Green growth has been a political buzz word throughout the past decade. It encompasses two basic elements, which are challenging to combine: going green, and ensuring growth. Yet, in order to achieve a truly sustainable development, green growth is a necessity. The Nordic Countries have jointly explored different pathways of ensuring green growth, through a Nordic Prime Minister’s initiative launched in 2011. The ambition of the initiative was no less than making the Nordic Countries leading in green growth. Now it is time to look more closely at the results. In this side-event during COP22 in Marrakech, we will present the main results from the initiative, focusing on those findings, which have direct relevance to combating climate change.
We have also invited leading experts from other international organisations, to present the latest updates on their work on green growth, in order to get a truly global perspective, and to jointly discuss parallels to the results achieved in the Nordic context.
The event will close with a panel discussion, where the audience, together with the panellists, will discuss what it takes to truly achieve green growth on a global level.
Please join us during COP22 in answering the question “Green growth - Are we there yet?” – and if not, how do we get there?
The event is followed by a cocktail reception and a short preview of a new Nordic Prime Minister’s initiative, “Nordic Solutions to Global Challenges”, to be launched in 2017.
