The Nordic countries have a joint pavilion at the UN Climate negotiations in Marrakech, November 7-18, 2016, under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Nordic pavilion at COP22 will highlight New Nordic Climate Solutions through a series of events and activities focusing on a greener future.
Achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement will require investments in the trillions. Internationally, the Nordic countries are often perceived as leaders in the international finance arena, both in terms of scale and in the ways they engage with addressing finance needs in developing countries. The event takes place at the New Nordic Climate Solutions Pavilion - Section DEL2, Blue Zone, COP22.
It is therefore valuable to understand how the Nordic actors, public and private, are already contributing to climate-related investments in developing countries, as well as how they could influence international finance flows and help make them more climate compatible. This side event will provide a Nordic perspective on how to mobilize - in particular private - finance consistent with a well below 2°C pathway.
Guiding questions for discussion: Which lessons can be drawn from the way Nordic countries deploy financial instruments and channels, and help build enabling environments to address the Paris Agreement financing challenge? What good examples from the Nordic context are innovative and replicable when it comes to mobilizing private finance?
