The Nordic Region today is a multi-religious region. The Nordic countries are all Protestant but the picture today looks very different compared to just fifty years ago. Immigrants belong to a wide variety of different churches and religions. At the same time surveys show that religion plays a minor role in everyday life for immigrants in the Nordic Region compared to most other countries.

What happens to Pettson, Findus, Pippi and your children when they move into the digital world? The Nordic Games Programme will introduce a selection of exciting Swedish games developers at the Book Fair. One of the initiatives to be presented is the transfer of children's classics, such as Pettson, Findus and Pippi, to interactive media. You can also explore the Dream Machine adventure game in the guise of a clay figure and test your knowledge of Nordic literature in a quiz game.

Languages rouse and touch!

After ten years' work with Nordic affairs, she knows of nothing that engages and sometimes provokes as much as our languages. It can be Danish, Finnish, or New Norwegian - our spoken and written everyday languages leave no one unmoved. To express strong opinions in matters of language in our Nordic countries can lead to learned debate but also to threatening letters and disparaging reviews of our own language or neighbours languages. Karin Arvidsson, former Communications Director of the Nordic Council and Nordic Council of Ministers, has taken the pulse of well-known and unknown Nordic citizens and their relationship to language in her book "Talar Norden med kluven tunga?" ("Do the Nordic countries speak with a forked tongue?")

Meeting Anna, who has created the Nordic stand at the Book Fair, was a stroke of luck. With her creativity and her sustainable thinking she personifies the new Nordic Region which our political leaders think will result in continued success in our part of the world. These are big words but true nevertheless.

There will be about seventy discussions, seminars and other events taking place at the Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic Council's stand. Altogether about a hundred writers, cultural celebrities, journalists, politicians and others will visit the stage at the stand. Knowledgeable and entertaining people will discuss a wide range of topics in culture, media and politics. Below is a short presentation of the four moderators who will lead most of the activities.

Then make sure not to be anywhere else but at the Göteborg Book Fair between September 27 and September 30. Hundreds of Swedish writers and more than sixty of the foremost authors from the other Nordic countries will ensure that this year's fair is a massive manifestation of Nordic culture.
