Clean Tech and Innovation
Addressing global climate change and other environmental problems necessitates the thorough implementation of more resource-efficient products and cleaner technologies. One of the focus areas of Nordic cooperation is cleaner technologies and innovation.
Several projects in this area have been carried out. The aim has been to provide input to national policies, as well as international processes such as the EU Environmental Technologies Action Plan and the EU Action Plan on Sustainable Consumption and Production and Sustainable Industrial Policy.
A number of policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the diffusion of cleaner technologies and environmental innovation have been proposed as a result of workshops and activities carried out by the Nordic Council of Ministers:
- using mandatory administrative instruments assisted by economic instruments and informational measures in order to create markets
- expanding green public procurement
- maintaining and developing high-quality education systems
- promoting multidisciplinary approaches
- creating a market that includes external costs for resource use and waste disposal.
Other areas in focus in the Nordic cooperation on clean tech and innovation are BAT-Best Available Techniques and eco-design. Read more here or download report.
