This report contributes to the almost world wide discussion concerning health claims as part of food labelling and marketing.
The report is the result of the work of a Nordic group. It brings about a nutritional evaluation of using health claims in marketing of foods.
The report gives clear indications that there is a great risk that health claims will mislead consumers, in case the health claims are not correctly understood and acted on by consumers in such a way that their diet is nutritionally improved.
To minimize this risk it is a prerequisite for health claims to be consistently regulated in accordance with the national nutrition policy.
