Chinese interest in Nordic Region

Representatives of the Nordic countries and the Nordic Council of Ministers met with top Chinese officials last week at a conference on young entrepreneurship in Yiwu, Zhejiang province.
The Nordic countries were quick to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. Last week’s visit was the result of an official Chinese invite and underlines the strength of the links between the two parts of the world.
“Our hosts clearly expressed an interest in closer and deeper links with the Nordic Region during the visit,” reports Dagfinn Høybråten, the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, whose agenda included talks with Vice President Li Yuanchao and Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Fengxiang.
Chinese officials hope that the event will become an annual one and lead to closer co-operation.
