Few CMR substances (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or substances toxic to Reproduction) in consumer products in the Nordic countries During 2001, the Nordic competent authorities for chemicals (control?) carried out a joint market control action by visits to 326 stores and manufacturers. Only 2 out of approx. 850 examined products contained CMR-substances. These were withdrawn from the market. Chemical products intended for use by consumers are not allowed to contain substances that are classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction. These products must be labelled as toxic. During the market control, products in the following categories were examined: paints and varnishes, glues, car and boat care products, corrosion protection and silver polish. By performing this control action in the five Nordic countries we had a unique opportunity to cover more product areas and many more products.
