The Heads of State and government leaders have not arrived yet, but on Wednesday Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff opened the exhibition ground attached to the Rio+20 negotiations and a great number of activities are going on all over Rio.

The Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM) has opened its stand in Athletes Park, the main exhibition ground, where amongst other things a reception for the Nordic capitals will be held on Monday June 18.

With funding from the NCM, the capitals have launched a joint catalogue, "Nordic Solutions for Sustainable Cities", which will also be presented at a so called global Town Hall on Monday.

The three seminars of the NCM will take place on Monday and Tuesday in downtown Rio. They will focus on New Nordic Food, equal rights and welfare, plus valuation of natural capital from a regional perspective.

The NCM also has an official side event at Rio Centro, where the negotiations are going on - and which despite the name is over an hour away from central Rio. The topic will be ecolabelling and sustainable public procurement, bringing together a number of environment ministers from the Nordic and South American countries.

Finally, the stand at Athletes Park features an exhibition on Nordic Energy Municipalities, promotes the UN ad competition "Drop by Drop" as well as the NCM Donate a Word campaign, along with general information on sustainability issues and efforts from the Nordic region.
