Welfare and Equality

The Nordic societies are based on a common set of basic values. They may not all approach welfare provision in exactly the same way, but the similarities between the countries are sufficient to constitute a recognisable “Nordic welfare model”. Equality is seen as an important driver in securing the welfare state and a sustainable development.
Gender Equality Creates Sustainable Societies
For more than 30 years Nordic co-operation has worked to improve equality between the sexes. An equal society presupposes a society free from all types of gender-related violence and other forms of discrimination.
The Nordic Model
Nordic co-operation on social and health affairs is based on the joint values that constitute the foundation for the Nordic welfare model. At its core is the principle that all citizens should enjoy equal opportunities to experience social solidarity and security for all. In practice this is expressed in terms of social rights for all citizens.
