The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir wins the Nordic Council Music Prize 2007

The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir from Stockholm has won the Nordic Council Music Prize 2007.

"The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir holds a central position and is a role model in the Swedish, the Nordic and the international choir world through its outstanding cultural expression and its brilliant craftsmanship quality. The highly developed sound of the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir has made it almost synonymous with 'The Nordic Sound'. The choir has a unique ability to deliberately and convincingly bring forth, identify with and vivify its wide repertoire ranging from renaissance to contemporary music. The Eric Eriscon Chamber Choir has inspired several generations of composers through its ground-breaking a capella music. From its central position on the Swedish music scene the choir has continuously expanded its work so that today it includes partnerships with several of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles. Finally through its many recordings with Swedish and Nordic choir composers the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir has documented and provided a distinguished contribution to Nordic cultural heritage," the Adjudication Committee said.

In 2007, for the first time in its history, the Music Prize will be awarded to a choir.

12 choirs were nominated for the prize this year. Each of the 5 member countries nominated two choirs and the autonomous areas of the Faroe Islands and Greenland nominated one each. There were no nominations from Åland this year.

The prize is worth DKK 350,000 and will be presented during the Nordic Council's Session in Oslo at the end of October.
