Education - one of the central topics at Nordic-Russian forum for young parliamentarians

28.04.14 | Nyhet
Education became one of the central topics when young Nordic and Russian parliamentarians met to discuss the future in Finnish Oulu 23-25/4.

It became an international exchange of experiences and good examples from the participants' home countries when young parliamentarians met at The Sixth International Forum for Young Politicians of North-West Russia and the Nordic Countries. Education was one of the central topics during the debate sessions as well as challenges facing young people in today's job market.

Jakob Esmann, president of the Nordic Youth Council, was one of the participants who accentuated the problems of high youth unemployment and the importance of young people getting a solid start in their working life. Esmann pointed out education as a major entryway to the future working life for young people and thereby the importance of equal opportunities to education.

   - Equal opportunities to education are vital preconditions for any other options in life, and therefore we need to invest in more education. Jakob Esmann.

Juho Eerola, member of the Nordic Council Presidium, also addressed the issue of youth unemployment and how it weakens these young people's faith in the future. Eerola further emphasized the opportunities with international exchanges, for example by students studying for some time abroad, and how this creates mutual benefits for both the individual and society at large.

   - The youth are the future and it is important to invest in them. Providing support for the youth to study, train and work abroad is one of the initiatives the Nordic cooperation supports. Juho Eerola.
