Nordic ministerial panel on the role and responsibility of men in gender equality work on Wednesday March 11th at the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

The Beijing Platform for Action is a milestone for women’s empowerment and gender equality. And a lot has been achieved since the adoption 20 years ago.

However, according to the Nordic ministers for gender equality, in order to further advance gender equality and ensure gender equality for women, we need to discuss the role and responsibility of men for advancing, achieving and promoting gender equality. This is the only way we can ensure continued progress towards a future gender-equal society.

The Nordic ministers for gender equality will organize a side event to the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in order to discuss the role and responsibility of men in gender equality work.

Women and men – a joint venture into an equal future!

The Nordic experiences show that gender equality is not just a matter of justice or democracy, but an economic necessity and a pillar of the Nordic welfare society. For the Nordic countries, being part of a globalized world means demonstrating international commitment. Through dialogue and discussion the Nordic co-operation is carried out in international forums with a view to promoting gender equality.
