This expert group's task is to advise and support the Nordic Committee for Co-operation and the Nordic Ministers for Co-operation on matters of sustainable development - including follow-up, implementation, information and evaluation of "A Good Life in a Sustainable Nordic Region".
Approved mandate for the SD Expert Group
The overall objective of the Nordic Expert Group for Sustainable Development is to assist the Nordic Committee for Co-operation (NSK) and the Nordic Ministers for Co-operation (MR-SAM) in following-up on the Nordic sustainable development strategy, "A Good Life in a Sustainable Nordic Region" – the Nordic strategy for sustainable development, and act as a Nordic network for sustainable development.
- Promote the council of ministers' policy sectors work on sustainable development, contribute to the development of sector specific goals, and co-operate with the sectors as necessary.
- Report annually on the implementation of the strategy to MR-SAM and produce annual indicator reports on developments in the Region.
- Give recommendations for the use of funding for sustainable development 5-0460-1 Sustainable Nordic Region. Promote and initiate measures which will contribute to joint Nordic synergy and to the Nordic Region achieving its goals.
- Give recommendations for the Nordic Council of Ministers' participation in international efforts for sustainable development.
Each country or autonomous region may appoint members to the group. The group should have competencies in different dimensions of sustainable development/strategy focus areas and may thus include more than one representative per country/autonomous territory. The group will ensure national support for the work of the Nordic Council of Ministers with sustainable development. The aim is to have an equal distribution of men and women. The chairmanship of the Group follows the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Secretariat of the Nordic Council of Ministers co-ordinates the activities of the Expert Group.
This mandate was approved by NSK on 19 February 2013 and will be in effect until further notice.
