A Nordic hearing about the threat posed by antibiotic resistance and what to do about it

The Danish Presidency of the Nordic Council is calling for political focus on the issue of anti-bacterial resistance, commonly known as antibiotic resistance.

The Council is hosting a Nordic hearing on the subject in the Parliament in Copenhagen on 6 December. Leading professionals, researchers, experts, civil servants and others will present concise and specific proposals for action to address and combat the problem.

The hearing will:
1) focus on the growing threat to public health
2) serve as a clearinghouse for experience and advice from all over the Nordic Region on how to combat the problem
3) provide input into a White Paper, which will serve as a political and administrative instrument in the Nordic countries and elsewhere.

Antibiotic resistance is a problem that affects everyone and needs to be addressed by the health and hospital sector, the agricultural and veterinary sector, the pharmaceutical industry and private retailers. The scale and scope of the problem make it imperative that everybody does their utmost to solve the problem.

The event is public.
