Jessika Roswall is Sweden’s new Minister for Nordic Co-operation. In Sweden’s new centre-right government, she will also be responsible for EU co-operation.

“Closer and stronger Nordic co-operation is crucial for our overall influence at the EU level. In the Nordic countries, we need to leverage our relative size in the EU and protect Nordic values such as openness and free trade,” says Jessika Rosvall.

Nordic co-operation is central

When Sweden assumes the Presidency of the EU next year, Roswall will have a key role.

But she says that she’ll keep up her work on Nordic co-operation.

“Nordic co-operation is central to being able to deal with common challenges for our countries and citizens. In the coming years, issues such as innovation, the green transition and security policy should take centre stage.

Worked as a lawyer

The moderate Jessika Roswall was previously chair of the municipal council in Enköping, and worked as a lawyer before starting her political career.

She was elected to the Swedish parliament in 2010 and has for many years sat on the Swedish parliament’s EU committee.

In the role of Minister for Nordic Co-operation, she will succeed the social-democrat Anna Hallberg.

The Ministers for Nordic Co-operation have political responsibility for co-ordinating Nordic co-operation.
