Nordic Energy Solution

Nordic Energy Solutions
Both the Paris Agreement and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) stress the importance of boosting the already impressive growth in renewable energy use to help exceed the 2° target. With this in mind, the Nordic countries have promised to deliver on the UN Goal of “Sustainable Energy for All” both at home in the Nordic Region and throughout the world.

01.01.2017 - 31.12.2019

Nordic Energy Solutions seeks to complement rather than duplicate existing solutions and setups at both national and international level, with the Nordic Council of Ministers adding value as both a catalyst and an honest broker.

The Nordic Region has thriving clusters of energy-system producers (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and biomass), all with ambitions of greater involvement in the developing world. The Nordic countries have a century of experience of working together on cross-border grid systems. They also work together to improve energy security and provide world-class electricity market design and regulatory frameworks.

The Nordics also have extensive experience in project finance, strong institutional investors (pension funds) dedicated to renewable energy investments and Nordic finance institutions (NDF, NEFCO, NIB) looking to expand the scope of their activities.

Nordic Energy Solutions seeks to spread the word about Nordic solutions, improve access to renewable energy and, in doing so, boost export opportunities and the competitiveness of Nordic companies within the renewable energy sector.

Prioritised activities include identifying gaps in renewables policy, financing and technology in developing countries and ways in which to reduce these gaps in order to leverage further investments. The project will focus on a few specific countries where Nordic governments, companies and other organisations are already involved and where scope for further expansion has been identified.
