The Nordic side events at COP24 are arranged into 11 themes. Ranging from youth to policy coherence and climate legislation, all theme days invite to a dialogue on Nordic solutions to the global climate challenges through a nordic global dialogue. Visit the Nordic pavilion (pavilion H 14 and 12) to participate!

Voicing the Future - 3 December

The next generation inherit the biggest challenge humanity has ever encountered. How do we cope with such an immense outlook? We raise our voices and take action!

The Voicing the Future Day at the Nordic pavilion will inspire, challenge, enable and incentivize solutions for enhanced climate action in the Nordics and beyond.

Join us to:

  • Explore how youth and #Generation2030 can guide climate action and policy development to ensure a sustainable future for all
  • Discuss how the voices of youth can be heard in the global discourse of the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development
  • Raise awareness on the links between sexual and reproductive health and rights, population and climate change adaptation

Moving Masses - 4 December

Transport is a major contributor to CO2 emissions. How can we change the existing transport systems and enable a green transition to pave the way towards a low-carbon society?

Join us to:

  • Reflect on what’s at stake when we talk about mobility, the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development
  • Explore how we can accelerate the change towards a low-carbon society by exploring all issues connected with transport and mobility, including land-, maritime-, urban- and air-based transport
  • Identify the obstacles for meeting the goals and the opportunities for new solutions

Building Green - 5 December

Cities are growing, urban population is rapidly increasing. How we plan and construct our buildings is crucial to reach the vision of a sustainable, low-carbon society, and the building sector has a huge potential to mitigate climate change by integrating circularity principles.

Join us to:

  • Learn how sustainability can be integrated into the whole value chain in construction
  • Challenge the existing ways of building and thereby unlock the potential in our built environment
  • Reflect on how we can ensure sustainable, resilient and climate-smart cities of the future that meet the needs of the growing urban population

Rethinking with Bioeconomy - 6 December

The summer of 2018 and the extreme weather events had major implications on agriculture and forestry in the Nordics and beyond. Simultaneously, agriculture and the energy sector are major contributors to CO2 emissions while land-use constitutes a key issue in many areas of the world.

These changing patterns challenge our current systems and environments and in order to meet these challenges, new and more resilient and adaptive societies are required.

Join us to:

  • Explore how bioeconomy can enhance climate resilience, aid the green transition and move towards sustainable food and energy systems
  • Discuss the importance of genetic resources and solutions to adapting food production to climate change
  • Reflect on the challenges and targets set out in the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030 and find new ways for optimizing the use of biomass to unlock its full potential and generate value

Creating Urban Futures - 7 December

Beneath the harsh statistic that the world is heading towards 70 percent urbanization by 2050, there is a major opportunity. All around us, cities are offering proven and scalable solutions for cutting emissions globally.

Cities are living laboratories, creating testing grounds for innovative policies and approaches. This pivotal role means that urban consumers – the most numerous of all – have the opportunity to drive changes in consumption habits and set new standards for urban sustainability. The time is now to look beyond the current buy-use-dispose consumption models.

Join us to:

  • Explore the roles of food, recycling, energy, transport and design in shaping low-carbon urban futures
  • Learn how we can use cities to experiment with new and innovative ways to shift paradigms from linear to circular economy
  • Discover close-to-the-consumer policies that are generating new solutions for climate action

Arctic Messages - 8 December

There is a rising economic and political interest in the Arctic and its unique environment and resources. While the interest offers great development potential in many areas, the Arctic region simultaneously faces rapid environmental changes.

Short lived climate pollutants directly affect the climate, biodiversity and health of the local population while the effects of global warming are experienced most strongly in the Arctic region. Traditional and local knowledge as well as new technological solutions are essential in addressing these issues and in ensuring a prosperous and vital future for the region.

Join us to:

  • Investigate what’s at stake when we talk about development of the Arctic region considering climate change and the Paris Agreement
  • Identify ways to boost sustainable business practices in the region
  • Reflect on ways to empower and engage with youths in the global discourse of climate action in relation to the Arctic region

Energy & Climate Outlooks - 10 December

The energy sector is a major contributor to CO2 emissions. The path towards sustainable, low-carbon societies requires us to challenge the status quo and the energy systems our societies currently are built on.

Innovative solutions enhanced regional and global co-operation as well as shifting the way governments issue subsidies provide opportunities for breaking silos and designing inclusive, sustainable and zero carbon societies.

Join us to:

  • Identify the obstacles, opportunities and new solutions regarding energy and the targets set out in the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development
  • Explore ways of moving in the direction of a low-carbon society throughout all aspects of energy use, from a focus on local islands to technical solutions like CCS and CCU
  • Identify how can we adapt to these changes and what the limitations and possibilities of adaptation

Scaling Up Green Finance - 11 December

Meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030 requires a green transition with vast mobilization of both public and private capital.

Enhanced climate ambition and renewable energy investments are not only the future, but essential for the realization of a low-carbon society. This requires enhanced co-operation and partnerships across disciplines and innovative climate solutions that challenge the prevailing systems and the way we think about finance.

Join us to:

  • Discuss how the Nordic environment- and climate co-operation can contribute to increased experience- and knowledge exchange for reaching the targets in the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030
  • Explore how green climate finance and co-operation can be used to their fullest potential in the green transition
  • Engage in a dialogue on how existing Nordic co-operation can act as a catalyst and support the creation of an overall sustainable, green financing system

Cohering Policies - 12 December

The Paris Agreement was a milestone for climate advocates and policies, but all nations need to rise to the challenge and increase their climate ambitions in order to meet the agreed upon goals.

The extreme weather events during the summer of 2018 and the increasing number of climate refugees indicate that today, climate change is one of the greatest threats to global security. But agreements such as the Paris Agreement give hope by showing that the world is capable of working together.

Join us to:

  • Reflect on how we can we rise to the challenges posed by climate change and meet the conditions of the Paris Agreement and targets of Agenda 2030 when the world’s political structures are based on short-term mandates and legislative powers defined by borders
  • Learn how youths are rising to the challenge by acting as agents of change
  • Explore the different perspectives on climate change and policy coherence and how the Nordic region can facilitate global co-operation on these issues while integrating the various perspectives into the agenda

Welcome to #talanordic - 13 December

COP24 has been named the COP of Dialogues and the Nordic Pavilion offers a contribution to these discussions by accommodating dialogues from a Nordic perspective. The two weeks of Nordic presence at COP24 will culminate in the Nordic high-level day, where everyone is invited to discuss, engage and take part in #talanordic – a Nordic global dialogue about the path towards a sustainable future.

The urgency of increased climate action will be coupled with a strong message of cohesion and co-operation and the prominent space for the youth to raise their voice in the day’s discussions.

Join us to:

  • Discuss the Nordic perspectives on global megatrends in delivering on the Paris Agreement and the promises in Mission Innovation
  • Consider the climate effects associated with energy and the environment, how we can adapt to these changes and what the limitations and possibilities of adaptation are
  • Explore how the Nordic region can help to ensure that gender equality and youth perspectives are adequately addressed and represented in the global discourse on energy and environment
