      • Language

The fellowship of language is one of the things that binds Nordic co-operation together. Danish, Norwegian and Swedish are so closely related that, with relatively little effort, you can learn to understand all the languages, if you speak one of them.

      • Nature and Environment

Nordic citizens enjoy rich, untouched tracts of wilderness, pure water and fresh air, but we must keep a keen eye on our environment if future generations are to enjoy the same privileges. The Nordic countries have a long-standing tradition of working together on matters related to nature and the environment.

      • Inter-governmental co-operation

The Nordic Council of Ministers is the official body for inter-governmental co-operation in the Nordic Region. Overall responsibility for co-operation lies with the prime ministers but in practice it is delegated to the ministers for Nordic co-operation.

      • Ministers for Co-operation (MR-SAM)

In practice the Ministers for Nordic Co-operation, on behalf of the Prime Ministers, assume responsibility for the co-ordination of inter-governmental co-operation.

      • Council of Ministers

The Nordic Council of Ministers was founded in 1971. Despite the generic name, it actually consists of several councils.

      • Behind the Nordic Council

What is the Nordic Council and how does parliamentary co-operation work between the Nordic countries? Here you can get a glimpse into the 'engine room' and read more about how the Nordic Council works for joint Nordic solutions across the Nordic countries.

      • Theme Session 2016

We have enjoyed freedom of movement within the Nordic Region for more than 60 years. This is no longer the case. The Nordic Council will meet for a theme session at the Storting in Oslo on 19 April to discuss the impact of border controls on Nordic co-operation
