The Nordic countries work together on initiatives that contribute to achieving the overarching goals in the health and social affairs sector – ensuring social security in the Nordic Region, promoting targeted preventative efforts, improving quality and safety, and promoting innovation and research.

The Nordic Centre for Welfare and Social Issues, which has its headquarters in Stockholm and an office in Helsinki, handles much of the practical co-operation within social affairs, in terms of projects and exchanges of experience.

The Nordic Centre for Welfare and Social Issues carries out projects, disseminates knowledge about welfare, supports networks of specialists from the Nordic countries, and promotes research collaboration.
