Nine initiatives nominated for the Nordic Council Environment Prize 2016

The adjudication committee has nominated nine candidates for this year’s prize based on proposals submitted by the Nordic public.

The theme for this year’s Nordic Council Environment Prize is digital innovation that promotes sustainable lifestyles. The prize is awarded to a Nordic enterprise, organisation, or individual that uses creative digital solutions to promote and offer inspiration for sustainable lifestyles.

Denmark

  • Energy Academy: An app that enables users to buy cheap food before closing time and combats food waste
  • Kemiluppen: An app which helps users to avoid undesirable substances in personal care products.
  • Too Good To Go: A global digital hub for sustainable local pioneers

Finland

  • Aidon: Smart electricity meters – key technology for renewable energy
  • ENO Environment Online: A global school network and a network for sustainable development

Iceland

  • e1: An app connects owners of electric cars with owners of charging stations
  • Strætó app: The Strætó app allows users to buy bus tickets and track the bus’s journey

Norway and Sweden

Sweden

  • Workaround: A sharing service that promotes the efficient use of office space

The 22nd Nordic Council Environment Prize will be awarded at a ceremony in Copenhagen on 1 November 2016. The winner will receive DKK 350,000.
