The Language Declaration

The declaration indicates the general direction of travel, but the Nordic governments are responsible for following up on it. Differences between the countries mean that they do not all focus on the same issues at the same time. 

The declaration focuses on teaching the Scandinavian languages both as neighbouring ​​and foreign languages; parallel language use of English and the main Nordic languages; the multilingual society and multilingual citizens; and the language used by official agencies (plain language use). 

Every two years, the Council of Ministers submits a report to the Nordic Council on how the countries have followed up on the declaration.
