Inga H. Sætre: Fallteknikk, 2011

Fallteknikk is a comic book novel about Rakel, who moves away from home to attend the last year at an upper secondary school.  She plays in a band with her best friend and tries out martial arts. But at the same time as Rakel is enjoying her freedom, she becomes more and more lonely. And then she discovers that she is pregnant. She has not had much contact with the child's father, and had not reckoned on doing so in the future either. Now what?

We follow Rakel from August to March. The novel describes friendship and loneliness up close and strong, with tenderness and humour. Complex feelings are portrayed by simple means in language and drawings. The drawing style is almost sketchy, but the facial expressions and body language hit the mark. The words are uncensored and add depth to the characters. In between, the story is broken up by fact boxes, thoughts that are allowed to stand alone on a white background, and especially by full-page watercolours. The soft watercolours give the story depth, and allow the reader to stop and think.

A story about 'falling', but also about usually being able to get up again.

The book won the Brage Prize and the Ministry of Culture's literary prize in 2011.
