The project Green Shoots is nominated for its work in developing green children’s institutions that help children and adults experience the countryside.
The project encourages children to be active and learn about nature and the environment, and to be able to link outdoor experiences with good exercise habits. Green Shoots has been developed against a background of studies showing that spending time outdoors gives children a healthier everyday life. More than 10,000 children and 300 institutions are active in Green Shoots, and over 100 of these institutions have made a special effort and raised a green flag as a symbol of an active and green everyday life. In order to involve the children’s parents, Green Shoots has developed a website with more than 250 nature and environment activities aimed specifically at children and adults together outdoors.
