About the Nordic Working Group for Climate and Air (NKL)

The mandate of the Nordic Working Group for Climate and Air (NKL) is to help reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollution and to seek synergies between initiatives related to the climate and air.

As far as the climate is concerned, NKL will contribute to an ambitious implementation of the Paris Agreement, including keeping the Nordic countries at the forefront of the green transition needed to meet the targets for greenhouse gas emissions, climate adaptation and funding.

The Group will drive the ongoing co-operation in the international climate negotiations and seek to develop the talks and make progress.

As far as the air is concerned, NKL will pursue closer co-operation on the UN Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP) ) and reductions in pollution in the Nordic Region, Europe and the Arctic. It will also seek to enhance knowledge of the effects of air pollution, the correlation between the air and the climate and work on potentially integrated preventive measures.

The work of NKL will help meet the relevant global sustainability goals in Agenda 2030.
