The Ministers for Nordic Co-operation and the Presidium of the Nordic Council discussed the Nordic Council of Ministers’ budget for 2024 at the 75th Session of the Nordic Council in Oslo.

On 30 October, the Ministers for Nordic Co-operation adopted the budget for 2024. The following day, the Nordic Council adopted its consideration of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ budget for 2024. The Nordic Council of Ministers and the Nordic Council discuss the Nordic Council of Ministers’ budget annually, and already in the summer of 2023 an agreement was reached which prioritises a number of specific measures in the budget for 2024, including within the fields of culture and education.

Focus on Vision 2030

The starting point for the budget is achieving the Nordic Council of Ministers’ vision of making the Nordic Region the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030. The vision contains three strategic priorities with the aim of making the Nordic Region a leader when it comes to the green transition, social sustainability, and competitiveness. Co-operation with the Nordic institutions, the Nordic Council of Ministers’ offices in the Baltic countries, civil society and the business sector is central to the work on Vision 2030. Similarly, efforts continue to work with purpose across sectors to ensure strong ownership among Nordic politicians. Co-operation between the Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers in relation to the budget is part of this process.
