The LAMPA Conversation Festival

LAMPA is a space and a spark for ongoing self-growth in an ever-changing world. It’s two days full of life, where you can sharpen your thinking, broaden your perspective and challenge your assumptions.

LAMPA is an inspiring and engaging platform for everyone who has something to say – and for everyone who wants to learn and talk about the matters topical in Latvia, Europe and the world.

The festival is a large-scale initiative – an open platform shaped by more than 300 organisations and active individuals, who together create a space for exchanging ideas in an open, respectful atmosphere and for engaging in meaningful discussions on the issues that matter to society. Anyone is welcome to propose and organise their own event at LAMPA.

The festival team includes the DOTS Foundation for an Open Society, Swedbank, the creative agency Armadillo, the communications agency Deep White, the Cēsis Municipality and the British Council. Its home is the Cēsis Castle Park, and it draws inspiration from similar democracy festivals in Denmark, Sweden and Estonia. Admission is free.

Festival Principles

Dialogue is the foundation of progress. We believe that everything starts with a conversation. LAMPA is a platform for meaningful dialogue and discussion.

To talk means to discuss, to listen – and importantly – to accept that every opinion has a right to exist, even if you don’t agree with it. LAMPA is a space for direct communication between people from different walks of life. In a time when most exchanges happen remotely – through social media, messages, emails – we need to relearn the art of face-to-face conversation. With respect and purpose.

We are the state – public participation is essential
We believe that life in Latvia would be much better if more people actively took part in public and political processes. LAMPA encourages people to care about these matters and to courageously start conversations with thought leaders. It’s a chance to realise that each of us can influence important decisions and help solve complex problems – ones we too often leave to someone else: politicians, officials, managers or neighbours.

Think and expand your perspective!
We are convinced that when people stay curious, think critically and reflect on the information they receive, they grow – and they grow upward. See you at LAMPA!
