The Finnish and Ålandic presidency of the Nordic Council in 2026 puts overall security at the very centre of Nordic co-operation.
In a time characterised by geopolitical unrest, hybrid threats, and increasing societal vulnerability, the presidency must strengthen the ability of the Nordics to prevent, deal with, and recover from crises. The programme emphasises closer Nordic co-operation on preparedness, defence, health security and security of supply, as well as critical infrastructure, mental resilience, democracy, and trust. The aim is for a more co-ordinated and robust Nordic Region, better equipped to deal with future challenges.
