After the Wedding

After the critically acclaimed and prizewinning film 'Brothers', Susanne Bier is now in the news again with the drama 'After the Wedding' - an intense story about family. "The family you escape from, let down or come home to again. Which you hate and love at the same time," as Morten Piil writes in the February issue of EKKO.

Mads Mikkelsen plays Jacob, who works in an orphanage in India. He is Danish but has not lived in Denmark for 20 years. As usual the orphanage is short of money, at a time when he is offered a large Danish donation.

Jørgen, played by Rolf Lassgård, is the benefactor, who insisted that Jacob return to Denmark to sign the papers himself.

Jørgen's daughter is to be married and Jacob is invited to the wedding. When he gets there he discovers that the mother of the bride and his benefactor's wife is his childhood sweetheart, Helene, played by Sidse Babett Knudsen.

The wedding proves to be a critical juncture between past and future and catapults Jacob into the most intense dilemma of his life.
