The Archipelago Foundation in the county of Stockholm, Sweden
The Stockholm Archipelago Foundation is a non-profit foundation whose aim is to preserve and protect important parts of the Stockholm Archipelago for natural heritage and leisure purposes. The foundation is supported by a friendship association consisting of 17,000 individuals, organisations and companies.
For this purpose the foundation has set aside land and water areas which belong to the Stockholm ‘landsting’, or areas repossessed or bought for this same purpose.
Stockholm's ‘landsting’ has then earmarked funds for the protection of the area. The foundation has also repossessed and bought large agricultural areas, including a number of archipelago lakes or parts of lakes.
