10:15 - 11:30 CORSIA-deal and Carbon-Neutral Growth in Aviation – Will These Policies Deliver Needed Reductions?
Aviation is a major and growing emitter of CO2. Aviation emissions in Europe have doubled since 1990. Without action, global aviation emissions could double or triple by 2050. Will CORSIA be sufficient to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement?
CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) aims to stabilize net CO2 emissions from international civil aviation at 2020 levels. The aviation sector is also committed to reduce its net CO2 emissions to half of what they were in 2005, by 2050. The aviation sector will advance technology, operations and infrastructure to continue to reduce the sector’s carbon emissions. Offsetting is not intended to replace these efforts. This event will focus on what kind of policies is needed to achieve deep emission reductions within the aviation industry. We will also discuss offset measures, alternative aviation fuels as well as electrification of aviation.

13:15 - 14:30 Do We Even Need Railroads and Ships in the 21st Century?
This session will focus on the need for innovation and new business models within mobility. We will combine an update on tracking clean energy progress (TCEP) in various modes of transportation with long term perspectives on future modes of transportation.
Are we relying and planning for infrastructure and transportation modes that will be outdated and not fit for purpose in the 21st century? How fast and disruptive will these changes occur? The session will offer examples of novel technologies emerging from the Nordic countries and elsewhere that drives the transformation in mobility.
15:00 - 16:00 Can Maritime Transportation Deliver on the Paris Agreement?
According to the ITF World Transport Outlook 2017, emissions from transport could increase by 60 percent by 2050, despite expected significant technology progress. In April 2018, The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) agreed to 50 percent reduction by 2050 compared to 2018 levels as their response to the Paris agreement. How should this reduction be achieved? What kind of solutions and policies can deliver?
This side-event will bring together representatives from the maritime industry, NGOs, OECD and members of the ferry electrification initiative called eFerry.
