Pregnancy and childbirth in the Faroe Islands
If you wish to arrange a consultation with the midwife at the hospital, you can call the National Hospital (Landssygehuset) in Torshavn: 10.30 am - 12.30 pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, at tel. 30 45 25
You can remain in the hospital for up to five days after the birth. This will allow you an opportunity for physiotherapy and conversations with your midwife, and to receive help and guidance on caring for your small child.
As a pregnant woman, you can visit your midwife at the National Hospital in Tórshavn, at the hospitals on Suderø and in Klaksvik, and in some smaller municipalities around the country. Call the midwife number at the National Hospital to arrange an appointment: tel. 30 45 25.
You can make several visits during your pregnancy. The midwife service provides guidance for pregnant women on pregnancy and childbirth, in addition to maternity preparation, acupuncture treatment, a quit smoking course, obstetric care and postnatal examinations and interviews.
