Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir is an Icelandic composer and multidisciplinary artist whose works blend contemporary classical idioms, experimental electronics, and performance elements. Her style is quietly intense, with a focus on immersive listening environments and precise sound design.
Bergrún plays the French horn, touring with Björk in 2007 as part of her brass ensemble. She also holds a Master’s degree in composition from Mills College, with training in both composition and sound art. Her works have been commissioned by some of the world’s leading orchestras and festivals.
Intraloper (2026), presented at Dark Music Days and performed by Bergrún together with the renowned Berlin-based brass ensemble Apparat, demonstrated her masterful handling of atmospheric soundscapes and refined control of timbre. The performance combined a delicate, haunting sonic environment with subtle, shifting motifs, creating an intimate yet penetrating work – almost akin to an art of quiet noise. Precise dynamic sculpting and a finely tuned sense of spatiality drew the audience into a captivating sonic journey, in which the overall impression was one of sensitive, calm development that remained both tense and insistent. The eloquent craftsmanship on display further reinforced Bergrún’s position as one of the most significant voices within the Icelandic avant-garde scene.
