Eli Tausen á Lava
The work Let me cry by composer Eli Tausen á Lava is based on the opening eight bars of the famous aria Lascia ch’io pianga (“Let me weep”) by G.F. Händel. The melody emerges with increasing clarity throughout the piece. The instrumentation, timing, and structure are truly distinctive. Over the course of the work, the melody develops into multiple layers that form its melodic and harmonic structures.
The piece has also received international recognition. The BBC Scottish National Orchestra selected it for performance at Nordic Music Days in Glasgow in 2024. Let me cry was also chosen to represent the Faroe Islands at the ISCM World Music Days festival in Bucharest in May this year.
Let me cry was premiered in 2022 by the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. The work will also be performed by the Faroe Islands Symphony Orchestra in concerts during 2026.
