Emilíana Torrini
Emilíana Torrini's debut international album, the epic, dramatic pop gem Love in the Time of Science (1999), established her as a global star. A charismatic siren with a perennial glint in her eye, she has maintained a presence in the international pop world without shedding an ounce of her artistic integrity.
In the 2000s, Emilíana showcased her versatility by performing “Gollum's Song” for The Lord of the Rings trilogy and co-writing “Slow”, a standout hit from Kylie Minogue's album Body Language, with collaborator Dan Carey. Her 2005 album, Fisherman's Woman, received widespread critical acclaim, and her infectious single “Jungle Drum” (from the album Me and Armini, 2008) topped the German charts for an impressive eight weeks.
Extracurricular activities have also been a constant, including work with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, the Belgian group The Colorist Orchestra, and Icelandic techno-collective GusGus. Last year, she released her daring solo album, Miss Flower, an ambitious alt-pop project inspired by a box of letters written to one Geraldine Flower, offering a poignant exploration of identity and empowerment.
Emilíana Torrini was also nominated for the 2017 Nordic Council Music Prize.
