Sofia Jernberg is nominated for the 2025 Nordic Council Music Prize.
Sofia Jernberg (b. 1983), singer and composer with a global presence, is a pioneer in modern improvisational music.
With one foot in jazz and the other in contemporary art music, Jernberg is a true virtuoso whose vocal expression can take on wildly different forms – beautiful, raw, astonishing, and razor-sharp. She works across a wide spectrum from contemporary opera to free improvisation, performing on stages around the world. Since her early days with the group Paavo (with pianist Cecilia Persson), she has followed a constantly evolving and uncompromising musical path. A unique musician with great integrity.
