Ying-Hsueh Chen
Ying-Hsueh Chen (b. 1983) is a visionary and virtuosic percussionist originally from Taiwan who has lived in Denmark for nearly 20 years. Among other things, she has created her own platform called Ancestral Modernism, through which in recent years she has led projects that combine traditional Asian music and contemporary music.
As a soloist, she is especially known for her performances of Xenakis's works – one of her videos of these has been viewed more than 137,000 times on YouTube. In 2023, she released the CD “Dark Radiance”, which received many positive reviews, including 6 hearts in Politiken.
Ying-Hsueh Chen always demonstrates a fascinatingly deep focus when she plays, and with her charisma and refined gestures, she consistently creates a strong presence in any room. She is naturally critical, which means she is also selective in her choice of repertoire and collaborators. For that reason, she is less visible in Denmark's mainstream scene, but on the more niche international stage, she is a unique star.
